Senior Consultants are responsible for managing and supporting work streams and supporting the engagement manager in virtually every aspect of a project: Project definition, general hypothesis generation, framing of research requirements, interview guide development, market sizing, data gathering, synthesis and analysis, final recommendations, executive summary, story board and presentation of report––written and oral.
Senior Consultants are expected to become increasingly “independent” in terms of the work they can perform and to increasingly mentor more junior staff “on-the-job” as they become more seasoned and experienced. They are expected to develop and perform significant “upward” management of project managers (usually Principals) in terms of setting expectations for delivery and meeting those expectations.

The Senior Consultant’s Role
Senior consultants drive the direction of our projects at The McKenna Group. We work in small teams, typically smaller than average consulting teams. This means that our senior consultants have the opportunity to take on more challenging work sooner than they would at an ordinary consulting firm. Our senior consultants take on managerial roles within a project team much earlier than you might expect elsewhere. This will happen not after years, but from the moment you are ready; we have confidence in the quality of our people.
Senior Consultant Development
At The McKenna Group, you will have the opportunity to actively shape the future of our company. Our offices are small enough that our senior consultants can make a real impact, rather than being lost in the crowd. Mostly, this is visible in the work that they do.
Senior consultants also take central roles in the life of the firm. They are given the power to shape the future direction of the company, playing a major role in such firm-building activities as recruiting, business development, and in-house training.
Senior consultants are put on the front line and develop as quickly as they are able.
We have only one policy on career progression—to develop and promote people as quickly as their potential permits.
Our most talented senior consultants advance to principal and partner levels much more quickly than their counterparts in larger, more traditional consulting firms. As with everything, we try to tailor people’s development to what they, and the company, agree they need.
